P&G, Sponsor A Child Inaugurate Resource Centre in Imo
As part of its corporate social responsibility programme in Nigeria, leading global consumer goods company, Procter and Gamble donated a Learn and Play centre to the children of Eziama community in Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State as part of its Building Futures program - a collaboration between Procter and Gamble (P&G) and a non-profit organisation ‘Sponsor a Child’. The company made the donation to ‘Eziama Motherless Babies Home’ in Eziama Ngor Okpala, Imo State, near Owerri, recently.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Reverend Ambrose Anyanwu, the founder of Eziama Community Charity and the motherless babies’ home thanked P&G and Sponsor A Child for the kind gesture which he described as indeed timely, godly and fitting for their needs and heartbeats. In his words “it is indeed amazing to note that God could spot out wherever we are and send people like you, our sponsors”.
Mrs. Lynda Anyanwu, the executive director of Eziama Community Charity said the resource centres and recreational facilities would raise the standard and quality of children’s learning experience, improve their reading skills, stimulate independent thought and promote their well-being through recreational facilities that enable them to explore, socialise and exercise. “The benefits of playground activity in a world where childhood obesity and associated diseases are on the increase outweigh any concerns about the investment in recreational facilities,” Mrs. Anyanwu said. She commended P&G whose support for the initiative has provided opportunities for the children.
The inauguration of the Eziama Motherless Babies Home brings to 7 the number of orphanages that P&G has donated resource centres and playgrounds to across the country. In addition to 7 fully equipped Learn and Play centres, P&G has donated computers, books and software to start up libraries in 15 orphanages since the Building Futures programme started in 2009. The program has also provided one-year supplies of P&G products including Pampers diapers, Ariel detergent and PUR purifier of drinking water to 3,500 Children in orphanages across Nigeria.
Ms. Olatoun Williams -the Co-ordinator of Sponsor a Child said “Thanks to Building Futures, at risk children are benefitting from educational resources, conducive study spaces and recreational facilities. Nigerian children have a right to quality education. Our children have a right to associate with one another peacefully and to play”. She also recognised Building Futures’ role in advancing the Millennium development goals (MDG’s) saying,”Building Futures helps to fulfil Nigeria’s health goals. Goals 4 and 7 – ‘to reduce child mortality’ and ‘to promote environmental sanitation and clean water’ respectively - are advanced by a generous donation of one year’s supply of Ariel, Pampers and PUR. 31 orphanages from 10 states and Abuja FCT have received these wonderful health promoting gifts. Williams concluded saying that “Building Futures is an inspiring example of corporate social responsibility in Nigeria. On behalf of Eziama community charity and Sponsor a Child’s team, I salute Procter and Gamble.”
Building Futures forms part of LLT, P&G’s global social responsibility platform that focuses on the development of children in need, leveraging P&G’s strengths and strong programs to help children ‘Live’ with the provision of preventive health products, technologies and services and education on healthy habits that help them to get off to a healthy start; to ‘Learn’ by providing access to educational facilities, tools and programs that enhance their ability to learn and to ‘Thrive’ by providing access to programs that build self-esteem and skills for life.

P&G Vice-Chairman Inaugurates NHPIL’s Safeguard Soap Manufacturing Plant.
The Managing Director, Procter and Gamble (P&G) Nigeria, Manoj Kumar and Dimitri Panayotopoulos, Vice Chair, Procter & Gamble (P&G) Global Business recently inaugurated a factory for the Manufacture of P&G’s Safeguard antibacterial soap at New Home Products Industries Limited (NHPIL) Plant, Matori during a recent visit to Lagos by the Vice Chair in November 2011.
This inauguration comes on the heels of P&G Nigeria’s partnership with New Home Products industries Limited (NHPIL) to manufacture P&G’s Safeguard antibacterial soap at the NHPIL factory developed for this purpose.
This partnership is part of Procter and Gamble’s long term investment plan in Nigeria. NHIPL’s manufacturing plant for Safeguard antibacterial soap is a world class facility that is enabling the leading global brand to reach consumers here in Nigeria and has already generated 70 new jobs with several more expected indirectly through suppliers and distributors.

In showing appreciation, Mrs. Benedicta Jereke, the Founder of Bema Homes said the residents of the home are very grateful to P&G and ‘Sponsor a Child’ for choosing their home to be one of the beneficiaries of the Building Futures project.
“I feel like a new born baby because it is not easy to have text books for the children. Without textbooks, the children cannot learn well said Mrs. Jereke. Seeing this, I am highly relieved and I pray that God will bless ‘Procter and Gamble’ and ‘Sponsor a child’ abundantly. I assure you that it will be well managed and judiciously put into good use with constant maintenance culture to ensure its durability”.
Representatives from the Federal Ministry of Women’s Affairs, the Federal Ministry of Education, the FCT Universal Basic Education Board amongst others were present at the commissioning event,
The ‘Resource center (learn and play center)’ donated to the orphanage comprises a well equipped, conducive study space furnished with computers, books and learning materials for children ranging from preschool to secondary school ages. The resource center also includes an outdoor play area for the orphanage. At the event, five other orphanages and children’s homes received whole year supplies of Pampers diapers, Ariel detergent and PUR purifier of water.
Speaking at the event, P&G’s Corporate Public Relations Manager , Olatomiwa Akande, reiterated the company’s commitment to improving the lives of children in need in Nigeria.
“We believe that qualitative education is a critical requirement for every child. This ‘learn and play’ center is our contribution to help position these special children on the path to success in life”, Miss Akande said.
While delivering her speech at the event, Ms. Olatoun Williams, Coordinator of the ‘Sponsor a Child,’ NGO said the resource centre was created to provide vulnerable kids with educational materials. According to her, Bema Resource Centre is the 6th in a line of such resource centers which have been donated to orphanages and community schools around the country by ‘Building Futures’ since its inception in 2009.

Promasidor Pledges Continued Support for Orile Iganmu
Promasidor Nigeria Limited, makers of Cowbell Milk, has pledged its continued support for the youth of Orile-Iganmu, a sprawling community in Lagos.
Chief Keith Richards, Managing Director of the company made the pledge at the 7th convocation ceremony of Orile-Iganmu Progressive Association (OIPA) Training Institute held in Lagos at the weekend.
Mr. Taiwo Oguntoye, currently on internship at Promasidor Nigeria Limited, in an interview said working in Promasidor has been a great privilege for him as he has been able to acquire and is still acquiring various valuable skills and knowledge.
Mr. Oguntoye added that he considers himself very fulfilled and favoured. “Being in Promasidor Nigeria Limited, has been a great privilege for me, because it was a dream come true. I want to say thank you to the people of OIPA, for giving me the opportunity to observe industrial training (IT) here in Promasidor Nigeria Limited, for the great knowledge that has been impacted and still impacting in me,” he said.
Miss Dialah Oluchi Daniella who emerged overall best among the 125 graduands went home with a brand new desk top computer and a printer.

Promasidor Nigeria Limited, a fast moving consumers goods (FMCG) company also donated five Intel Pentium computer systems with flat screen monitors to OIPA Training Institute to equip youth with computer packages in a bid to make them ICT compliant.
Earlier in his welcome address, Mr. Olabode Medale, President OIPA said the association is very grateful to Promasidor Nigeria Limited for its immense contribution to the success of the training programme and for its continued patronage of the ‘One Voice’ Newspaper, the community based newspaper.
Mr. Medale also commended the company for offering internship programmes to two of the graduands in its ICT department, adding that they are grateful and shall continue to appreciate Promasidor’s strive towards making life meaningful to the downtrodden masses of their community.
He furthermore said the computer institute has grown from being a mere training school to a skill acquisition centre with modern day equipment due to the support from its corporate sponsors.
